Melamchi Drinking Water project gains speed

1 Feb, Kathmandu: The installation of the drinking water pipeline in Kathmandu Valley under Melamchi Drinking Water Project is moving ahead in speed.

The Melamchi Drinking Water Project – 2 Implementation Directorate is installing the pipelines in 50 locations per day.

Directorate’s Manager Nanda Bahadur Khanal said they have already installed 530 km pipes. The total of 670 km pipes as part of the project.

The pipe installation works are currently taking place at Naya Sadak, Naya Baneshwor, Thamel, Mangal Bazaar,and along the banks of the Bagmati river. According to the Directorate which further stated that works have just started in Khusibu, Kalimati, Balkhu and Kuleshwor.

The water from Melamchi will be channeled to Sundarijal. where it will be processed before being distributed to 11 major tanks within the valley. The water will supplied to every household. The Project is tasked with digging 61 km for the major distribution line to supply water to 11 prime destinations. Till date it has completed 38 km.
